God’s unfailing love is sometimes hard for us to understand. In fact, I don’t know that I will ever be able to fully grasp God’s unfailing love, at least not in this lifetime.
God loved me first
For me, I suppose that when I think about how much God loves us, I first think about what Jesus said in John 3:16-17:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.”
Can you imagine giving your son or daughter to die for the sins of someone else? I can’t. My first thoughts would be to let the person die for his own sins. What do the sins of someone else have to do with me? God, however didn’t do that.
According to Romans 5:8, God died for our sins “while we were still sinners”.
God didn’t wait for us to clean up our act. He didn’t wait for us to be perfect. He died for us while we were still sinners. I don’t about you, but when I really think about that, I find myself very humbled. I find myself asking God to forgive me for my long list of demands and complaints, and, instead, find myself thanking God for his unfailing love.
God is Righteous & Just
This isn’t the only thing that I think of, however, when I think of God’s unfailing love. I think of Psalm 36:5-7 which says:
“Your love, O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the great deep. O Lord, you preserve both man and beast. How priceless is your unfailing love!”
It may not always seem like it when we look at all the horrible things happening in our world right now, but God is a good God. He is righteous and he is just. He has a plan for you and for this world even if we can’t see it or understand it. But, then, we aren’t God. He is.
You just have to ask
No matter what we are going through, He will be there for you if you ask. There are many times in my life that I didn’t think that I would make it and if it wasn’t for God, I know I wouldn’t be here today. I didn’t always even recognize that he was giving me the strength I needed or leading me until after the fact.
I often think of the poem Footprints when I think of his love because so many times, it is in those times when I can’t see him or hear his voice that he is carrying me. He guides me even when I can’t see the way and feel like I am stumbling around in the dark.
Let God be your light in the darkness. Let him guide you. Take hold of God’s unfailing love today and your life will never be the same.
