We all have times in our lives when everything seems dark or out of control and we wonder “Is God in control of this world? Does he really care about me?” We wonder why He isn’t doing anything or why he lets bad things happen.
I don’t have an answer for those “Why?” questions, but I do know that he cares and that he is indeed in control of not only the world but also our lives. We just need to learn how to see and hear him.
Often times, we may know in our minds that he is in control but our hearts may cry out something different.
When we lose a job or our home or when we lose someone we love, or when someone does something to hurt us, it’s easy to believe that He doesn’t care or that he isn’t in control. If he is in control, when life is dark, we wonder why he lets bad things happen.
Scripture reminds us that he right there with us even though we may not be able to see it.
Isaiah 41:10 says, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”
God doesn’t want us to be afraid, but to trust in him and to hold on to faith.
It says in Isaiah 35:4 to “Say to those with fearful hearts,’Be strong, do not fear; your God will come, he will come to save you.'”
Sometimes, putting aside our fears and holding on to faith is a monumental task. Sometimes, it feels like you are jumping off of a cliff blindfolded and trusting that God will catch you. Other times, it feels like walking into the warm embrace of your Father.
No matter what fear you are facing today, if you refuse to feed and choose to be strong and call out to God and trust him, you won’t be disappointed. He is the great Comforter. He may not give you what you want, but he will give you what you need.
Corrie Ten Boom once said “When a train goes through a tunnel and it gets dark, you don’t throw away the ticket and jump off. You sit still and trust the engineer.”
God is the engineer. When things get hard, sometimes all we can do is sit still and let God have control. If we jump off the train, things will get even worse. If we hold on tight, then God will lead us through.
There is no other God!
Isaiah 45:6-7 says, “That people may know, from the rising of the sun and from the west, that there is none besides me; I am the Lord, and there is no other. I form light and create darkness. I make well-being and crate calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.”
Throughout the Bible, God makes it very clear that He is the One and Only God. He created the universe and everything in it. Our vision is so limited and marred by sin that we can’t see what he sees. We are the creation, He is the creator.
He has a purpose in all things even though we may not see or understand.
It says in Isaiah 55:8-11, “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the Lord. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it.”
Nothing can separate us from the love of God.
There is nothing you can do to keep God from loving you. If you are carrying burdens of guilt and remorse over your past, he will forgive you. You can’t earn it. It’s a gift free for the taking. You only have to ask him and you shall receive.
Romans 8:38-39 says, “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death no life, neither angels no demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow- not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love.”
God loved us so much that He took on human form and died a horrible death on a cross. He then conquered death making it possible for us to be forgiven of all of our sins. If he did this, can you not believe that he can help you through life’s dark moments?
If he died for you, can you not believe that he cares about all the details of your life?
If he created the universe and everything in it, why wouldn’t he care about the condition of the world and already have a solution? He does.
Jesus is coming again to make everything right.
In Revelation 22:12-13 Jesus says, “Behold, I am coming soon! I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.”
It won’t be long before Jesus comes again in clouds of glory to make all things right again. Now is the time to make sure you are right with God.
When you ask yourself “Is God in control of this world? Does he really care?”, just remember that all things begin and end with him. Nothing happens that he doesn’t know about. He has a purpose in all things. He loves you and he cares about you so much that he sent Jesus. He will be there with you if you ask him.
