Just Listen

Why is it so hard to just listen for God’s voice? We get so caught up in our daily lives- taking care of our families, going to work, going to church, running errands, etc. that we rarely take the time to listen for his voice. When we pray do we take the time to just listen to him or are we doing all the talking?Just listen

It says in Isaiah 28:23 to “Listen and hear my voice; pay attention and hear what I say.”

God is waiting for us to take time to stop for a moment and just listen so that he can guide us, teach us, and help us. He wants to communicate with us and have a relationship with us. He wants to steer us away from trouble and into all that he has for us and for our lives. However, if we don’t stop long enough to listen, we aren’t going to hear anything. We’re all so busy doing all the talking, making sure that our voice gets heard or so busy just doing stuff that we don’t take time for him who loved us so much that he died for us.

We’re all so busy doing all the talking, making sure that our voice gets heard or so busy just doing stuff that we don’t take time for him who loved us so much that he died for us.

I wrote this poem a few years ago about listening. God speaks to us in many ways, but usually, it’s that still small voice just waiting to be heard.

WHISPERS

Whispers in the night
The whistling of the wind
A silent nudge
Instinct, perhaps an inkling
Go this way, not that
A dream maybe?
The sound of a bubbling brook,
The rushing of a river
Or the roar of the ocean
Can you hear it?
What is it?
Listen closely-
You don’t want to miss it.
It’s God.
He’s calling you.
Answering you.
Longing for you to listen.
What’s he saying?
I know! I can hear him!
He said, “I love you.”
Every once in a while you may have a “burning bush” type of experience and God will really get your attention. Usually, however, he waiting for you to come to him and just listen so that he can love you. He wants to hear from you about all your needs and wants and dreams but he also wants you to listen to him. He has great plans for each of us and only wants what’s best for our lives.
I encourage you today, to slow down, take a few minutes to tune out all of the distractions and just listen for God’s voice and his presence. Let him speak to you and guide you. Let Almighty God, Creator of the Universe, Jesus our Savior just love you and bring you his peace.
